Until I have children, my camera gear fits that role. And unlike how I’ll feel about my kids, I favorite certain gear. This is my new favorite.
The 45mm tilt shift lens is a lens I’ve been drooling over for a long time. To learn a little bit about tilt shift photography, click here. This lens is all manual, and all awesome. It turns me and my camera on big time.
Speaking of cameras, this is the new addition to my bag…
The Canon 7D is replacing my 40D (want to buy it?), and my 5D is a little bit jealous of the ways its new brother performs. Other than the fact that the 5D is full frame, the 7D kills it in every other aspect. Extreme amazing ISO, 8 frames per second, great focusing system, HD video. It’s hot.
Here are the first few photos I took with the tilt shift on the 7D.

Way too long since I’ve shared a Playlist. This one is all over the place, including the song P!nk performed on the Grammy’s. For someone who used to HATE her music, I think this is one of the best pop songs I’ve heard this year. Also, some of the lyrics in the Girl Talk songs are ‘inappropriate’, but they are so dang fun I can’t help it! That’s just my warning for anyone who might want to know.
Also, you should definitely download Peter Gabriel’s cover of Bon Iver’s “Flume” HERE for FREE! It’s beautiful.
Scott is Mark’s cousin. Trisha is Scott’s wife. Katie is his Mark’s niece. Snapper is his wild nephew/godson (you might recognize him from our wedding!) They are one of the reasons I love being married into Mark’s family! Some of my favorite times have been with Scott and Trisha. We took these photos on our last day in Houston over Christmas, before Trisha had her baby. A few days ago we got the email that Henry Edward was born, weighing 9 pounds. I can’t wait to meet him!
The bike series just stepped it’s game up. In our living room.
If you like any of the photos you’ve seen from the bike series enough to buy one, please email me. Profits from any photos I’ve taken, both from client events and personal projects, will go straight to Real Hope for Haiti as an addition to all the great photos for sale through Gift Haiti. The other half of Gift Haiti, the amazing Caroline Tigner, is on her way to Haiti as I type. Read her blog to stay updated on what she’s doing to help. As she finds time to take photos, she’ll email them to me, and I’ll load them on the Gift Haiti ordering site. Thank you thank you thank to everyone who has purchased photos! Yesterday, Tig took all the money we’ve raised so far and went to Wal-Mart before her flight to Florida and filled two duffle bags full of tents, tarps, medicine, and food. They are on their way to people in need RIGHT NOW! Your money will be providing shelter, meals, and hopefully healing. Incredible!
Also, a ton of the photos on sale through Gift Haiti will be displayed at a church in Memphis starting tomorrow night through all of February! We hope to sell them all and send another batch of beautiful, mounted prints from ProDPI. I’m excited to see photos of the event since I won’t be able to go (and won’t even see the prints in person!) I’ll update when I get more info. If you or anyone you know might be interested in putting photos up in a coffee shop, church, wherever, please let us know!! You can email us at gifthaiti@gmail.com.
Last, my great friends Ashley Jensen and Sandy Eckert, who run Striking Stems, will be creating four different arrangements that can be ordered for Valentines Day. A portion of the arrangements sold will be going to RHFH, so if you live in the Houston area, or love someone who does, check out their website and contact them about giving to Haiti through flowers.
There are a lot of terrible wedding magazines out there…Weddings Unveiled is not one of them! And now, they just made my day by being the first wedding blog to feature my work!
I’m obsessed with light painting and night photography in general. One of my favorite photographers, Jeff Newsom, melts my brain every time he light paints orbs. I could not understand how he did it so I googled it and found out that this is actually a really popular thing to do (but I still think Newsom is hands down the best at it!) I watched a video on the general concept of how to do it and I freaked. The concept is simple! So last night Mark and I spent about 15 minutes testing it out, and though we have tons of practice to do, I’m pretty stoked about these two images. Mark painted both of these in our living room.

Next, we’ll head outside, so stay tuned as we attempt to master the orb and make super awesome nightography!
cindi - Hi
I like your attempts at light painting orbs. I checked out Jeff's and his is very good. I just thought you might also want to check out a group on Flickr called Light Junkies. There you will see some amazing light paintings.

Last week I took advantage of Borrow Lenses free shipping deal by renting the Canon 24 1.4L and the Canon 35 1.4L. I’m in love with both these lenses and have had fun playing with them all week! I got bored taking photos of non moving objects so I called up my friend Lynsie and asked her if I could take photos of her super cute daughter, Peyton. I met them at the park and enjoyed watching Peyton play through the amazing 35L. 30 minutes with her at the park, and a day shooting animals through glass, confirmed that I must have this lens! All of these were shot on the 5D at 1.4. I normally wouldn’t shoot an entire session wide open, but I thought it would be fun to learn this lens by keeping it at 1.4…I like the results!
My favorite!
Part 2 of this post is Canon Stuff for Sale! I’ll consider taking a BEST OFFER, so don’t hesitate to ask! Everything is in perfect condition, I’m just making some changes in my body and lens lineup. All items come in the original box.
Item #1 : Canon 50mm 1.4 w/ lens hood // $330. If you don’t want the lens hood, will sell for $310. I bought this brand new in March.
On Saturday Mark and I had an epic day/night date in Atlanta. We headed to the Georgia Aquarium, the world’s largest aquarium! Our favorite part was the Ocean Voyager exhibit, where you could walk through a tunnel and gaze at all the gentle giants! Ocean Voyager has whale sharks (the largest fish species in the world) and two manta rays (the only manta rays in a U.S. aquarium, ever!) There were also lots of stingrays, goliath grouper, and hammerhead sharks. I loved taking photos of these amazing animals and really wish I didn’t have to photograph them through glass! Now I really want to scuba dive with my camera! (Photo note: all of these were taken with the amazing 35 1.4L on the 5D).
In the Georgia Explorer exhibit we saw the super cute loggerhead sea turtle!
I want one of these in my living room…
Playing with rays and sharks…
My second favorite exhibit was the Tropical Diver where we got to see the amazingly beautiful jellyfish.
Favorite shot of the day…
The Aquarium has weddings in their amazing ballroom and I HOPE BEYOND ALL HOPE to photograph one there someday!
We wrapped up the night at CraftBar, one of Tom Colicchio’s restaurants. Incredible.
Also incredible is the Hope for Haiti Now album that you can download here for only $7.99! My favorite performance from the telethon was Justin Timberlake and Matt Morris covering “Hallelujah.” Probably my new favorite version of that song. Watch the performance below if you missed it!
Marky Bear - those pictures are awesome baby!! i promise next time we go that there will be less people. those little kids get in the way of all the good pictures!! keep up the good work.
